Sister Evangeline Thompson (Helen Stephen)

Sister Evangeline grew up in Enfield, NS and attended E.H Horne School.  From 1955 to 1971 she was missioned at Saint Brigid’s Home in Quebec, Saint Joseph’s Orphanage in Halifax, Mount Saint Vincent Mother Berchman’s Residence in Halifax and Seton Academy in Vancouver. While missioned in BC she received her certificate as a kindergarten teacher and later studied human resource management in Halifax.

Sister Madeline Power (Rose Madeline)

Sister Madeline Mary Power (Rose Madeline) passed away November 27, 2021 at Caritas Residence, Halifax, N.S., at the age of 95. Born in Marystown, N.L., she was a daughter of the late Albert and Mary (Kilfoy) Power. For 36 years, Sister Madeline provided housekeeping and dietary services in the communities of Boston, New York, British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec and Nova Scotia. A large part of her vocation was dedicated to Pastoral Ministries in various hospitals and homes for the aged.

Sister Beatrice Thompson (Agnes Rhoda)

Sister Beatrice’s early ministries took her to British Columbia where she served for fourteen years. Upon her return to Halifax in 1961 she ministered at the Halifax Infirmary Hospital and Saint Vincent Guest House where she served in food services and later became the Main Kitchen Supervisor at the Halifax Infirmary. Sister Beatrice had a great appreciation for all who served in Nursing, Housekeeping, Maintenance, and Food Services. She enjoyed great conversation over a cup of coffee.

Sister Eleanor Hedwig Quaderer (Eleanor Frederick)

Eleanor Hedwig Quaderer (Eleanor Frederick) aged 86, died September 3, 2021, at Elizabeth Seton Residence, Wellesley Hills, MA. The daughter of Eleanor M. (Langen) and Frederick E. Quaderer, Eleanor was born in Bellmore, NY on April 5, 1935. She entered the congregation at St. Joseph’s Convent, Halifax, NS, on October 8, 1957. Gentle, quiet and unobtrusive, Sister Eleanor’s first assignments were in Quebec, as a middle-school teacher.

She was a woman of deep faith and lived out her life caring for the needs of others. She was very professional in her ministries and served others with great compassion, love and understanding. Sister Maria was a gifted writer and had a beautiful singing voice.

Sister Marguerite Hagarty (Rita Thomas)

Sister Marguerite started out as first grade teacher in New Jersey, USA and delighted teaching little ones, whom she loved. Later, Sister was involved in parish religious education in Amherst, Bridgewater, Dartmouth, Halifax, and Herring Cove. Her ministry also included spiritual development at Springhill Prison and participation in Diocesan Ministries including the New Beginnings Program. She ministered as Hospital Chaplain at the QEll Health Sciences Centre and was Community Leader at the Sisters of Charity Motherhouse Retirement Community, a ministry for which she is fondly remembered.
