O’Malley, Sister Therese (Patrick Therese), 87, died in Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax, NS on April 25, 2017. Born in Halifax, NS on October 1, 1929, she was a daughter of John and Catherine (Murphy) O’Malley. Therese entered the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1947 and made her perpetual vows on August 15, 1956. Prior to her ministry in education, she received a B.A. from Mount Saint Vincent College (now University). She began her teaching career in 1950 at St. Joseph School, Halifax. She remained in this ministry for the next 21 years, teaching in Dorval, QC; Brooklyn, NY; and Bathurst, NB. She also was in charge of the Crafts Shop in Terence Bay, NS for two years. From 1971 until her retirement in 1988, she served in various capacities as a volunteer with the aged, retired, and infirm. She also engaged in some parish visiting. Most of these activities took place in the Cape Breton area where many of her friends still reside. Sister Therese is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents John and Catherine; her sisters Catherine Comeau and Karen Robinson; and her brother John. The body will be in Caritas Residence on Thursday, April 27, with visitation from 3 p.m. until the Prayer Service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 28 at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Chapel in Caritas Residence. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville, NS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Charity Ministry Fund.
