HARRINGTON, Sister Mary SC Sister Edward Josephine, affectionately known to many as “Sister Mary Sunshine” and a beloved Sister of Charity, Halifax for 82 years, entered peacefully into eternal life with her God, on April 9, 2024, at Elizabeth Seton Residence, Wellesley, MA. Sister Mary was born in Lowell, MA, the daughter of the late Bridget J. (Glynn) Harrington and Edward S. Harrington. Along with her parents, Sister Mary was predeceased by her four-month-old sister; her aunts, Mary (Minnie), Lil Glynn, Norah (Norrie); very close cousins, Mary Johnson, Emma Whitney, Annie Wills, Dorothy Carter, Helen Couture, Sarah Purcell, Ann Purcell, Emmett Glynn; and several great-nieces and nephews and her sisters throughout the Congregation. Sister Mary’s primary ministry was education as a gifted teacher of elementary school children. She spread her “sunshine” in classrooms for 45 years at Our Lady of Angels School, Brooklyn, NY, Saint Patrick School, Roxbury, MA, Saint Perer School, Lowell, MA, Academy of the Assumption, Wellesley, MA, Saint Peter School, Dorchester, MA, Saint Michael School, North Andover, MA, Saint Francis of Assisi School, Manchester, NH and Saint Paul School, Wellesley, MA. Along the way, at each of these missions, Mary additionally taught Religious Education classes, managed school supplies and served as treasurer in several local communities. After leaving the classroom, Sister Mary served in Congregational ministry as Provincial Secretary of the former Boston Province and then as part-time receptionist at Sacred Hearts Parish, Malden, MA. Sister Mary brought her “sunshine” to Marillac Residence in 2006 and then, briefly, to Elizabeth Seton Residence. Funeral Services for Sister Mary Harrington will take place on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Mount Saint Vincent, 125 Oakland Street, Wellesley, MA. Wake at 9:30 AM, followed by a Prayer Service, at 10:15 AM, and the Mass of Christian Burial, at 10:45 AM. Interment will take place at Saint Mary Cemetery, Needham, MA, immediately following the Mass.
