Kielley, Sister Ann (Anna Vincent) SC, died peacefully at Caritas Residence on February 15, 2025, at the age of 95. She was born Hannah Mary Kielley in Carbonear, Newfoundland. Sister Ann was the daughter of the late Thomas Kielley and Rita (Whittle). She entered the Sisters of Charity-Halifax in 1949 and made her first profession in 1952.
Following her first profession, Sister Ann was missioned to Patchogue, NY, where she supervised students and taught Catechism and sewing in Home Economics classes. Sister Ann was so gifted in sewing and design, when she returned from NY to Mount Saint Vincent Academy, the Leadership at the time asked her to redesign the habit to adapt to the changing times of the Church. She worked with a company in Newfoundland who made the habits, she designed. Sister Ann also designed the coifs and made them both by hand and by machine for all the Sisters.
Sister Ann received her hairdressing certificate and studied Business in Halifax, NS. In 1970, she began work at the Dartmouth Vocational School in the Department of Student Services. She began working at NSCC in Financial Administration where she continued to work until her retirement in 1996. Following her retirement, she worked at the Motherhouse in Finance and assisted in Hospitality into her 90’s. Over her many years, she also volunteered at the Halifax Infirmary and Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital doing hospital ministry.
Sister Ann was known for her generous heart and for being a faithful and loyal friend. She had a deep love for her family who always lovingly referred to her as “Annie”.
In addition to her parents, Sister Ann is predeceased by her stepbrother, Micheal Shea. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Shirley Shea, her nieces, Cathy Johnson, Michelle Jacobs, Tina McPhee and their families.
All services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Chapel, Caritas Residence, 215 Seton Road, Halifax. A Welcoming and Vigil service will be held on Monday, February 24 at 9:00am followed by The Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. The Funeral Mass will be open to Sisters, Associates, family and close friends. The Funeral Mass will be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/event/4930610/09265b0bc4. Burial will take place in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville, NS immediately following the services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Charity.
