Campbell, Patricia (John Winifred) SC, died peacefully at Caritas Residence in Halifax, NS on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the age of 87. Sister Patricia was born in Boston, MA on May 31, 1938, the daughter of John and Winifred (Gerbick) Campbell.

She entered the Sisters of Charity-Halifax in 1956 and made her religious profession in 1959.

Sister Pat’s life was a profound witness to faith, service, and courage. Born in Boston, she loved her American roots, yet it was in Halifax, especially the North End, that she found her true home. Proudly calling herself a “northender,” she embraced the people and the spirit of the community with warmth and devotion.

For 35 years she taught school, primarily at St Stephen’s Junior High School in Halifax, NS. A year after she retired from teaching in 1994, she began her second labour of love, her ministry of caring and advocating for her elder Sisters as Coordinator at Mother Berchmans Residence.

In 2003 she negotiated and pioneered the wide scale move of the many senior Sisters relocation to Parkstone Enhanced Care. In 2008, she once again led the charge in advocacy for the senior Sisters in their move to Caritas Residence, the retirement home for the Sisters of Charity-Halifax until she retired in 2018.

In her years of caring for others, Pat served with a gentle touch and a loving heart. She offered support not only in practical ways but in the quiet, steady presence of someone who truly cared. Her generosity was constant. Throughout her life, through her ministries and her love, she moved mountains.

For more than 60 years as a Sister of Charity, she gifted many lives with compassion, integrity, and a generosity that seemed to have no limits. She cherished her family and friends, and her loyalty, faith, and quick wit made her presence both comforting and uplifting. She was a steadfast advocate. She spoke the truth as she saw it. Clearly, courageously, and always with the good of others at heart. She knew when to keep a confidence, and when to raise her voice on behalf of the poor and the powerless. Her advocacy was never loud or self-seeking; it was rooted in love, justice, and a deep sense of responsibility to those who needed someone to stand with them.

Sister Pat leaves a legacy of truth, compassion, and wholehearted service. She touched lives, strengthened her community, and lived her years with purpose and grace, all the while with her mischievous grin, which was always an absolute joy. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her and by all whose lives she so beautifully enriched.

In addition to her parents, Sister Patricia was predeceased by her sisters, Barbara Campbell and Carol (Campbell) DeWever, and by Carol’s husband, Peter DeWever of Quincy, MA. She was also predeceased by her niece, Karen (DeWever) Vallone, and her nephew, James DeWever. She is survived by her niece, Diane (DeWever) O’Brien of Brockton, MA, and her nephew, Steven DeWever of Mechanic Falls, ME, along with many other nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
